Vero Cycling Member Code of Conduct

Vero Cycling has adopted this Code of Conduct to promote safe cycling, courtesy and good sportsmanship amongst its members. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe the type of behavior which Vero Cycling is seeking to promote and encourage its members and supporters to adopt.

As a current member of Vero Cycling, each member affirms acceptance of this Code. Upon new membership enrollment and renewal, the member further agrees to and accepts the terms of the Code. Failure to maintain this Code of Conduct may result in suspension or revocation of membership at the sole discretion of the duly elected Board of Directors. Members, both current and new, who do not accept the Code shall have their membership revoked or denied.

The key principles of the Code of Conduct include:

A. Vero Cycling wishes to operate in an environment where people show respect for others and their property. Respect is defined as consideration for another’s physical and emotional well-being and possessions, to ensure no damage or deprivation is caused to either.

B. Vero Cycling wishes to operate in an environment that is free from harassment. Harassment is defined as any action directed at an individual or group that creates a hostile, intimidating or offensive environment.

C. Vero Cycling wishes to operate in a non-discriminatory environment. Respect the right, dignity and worth of every human being – within the context of the activity, treat everyone equally regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, politics, or religion.

Inappropriate and unacceptable behavior include but are not limited to:

1. Physical abuse to any person while riding or at a club event.

2. Use of foul language or making obscene gestures towards any person while riding or at a club event.

3. Malicious actions while riding or at a club event that endangers the well-being of others.

4. Unwanted proselytizing of personally held religious or political views.

5. Non-consensual physical contact, threatening or bullying behavior, unwanted sexual advances, and any other unacceptable behavior in which the recipient is uncomfortable.

6. Conduct which is hostile, abusive, harassing, or discriminatory towards motorists, other cyclists (members & nonmembers), or pedestrians even if they are in the wrong.

7. Excessive consumption of alcohol at club events or attending these events while inebriated or under the influence of illegal drugs.

8. Other inappropriate conduct that reflects poorly on the club and/or cycling in general, including, but not limited to, violating relevant traffic regulations whether on individual or group ride; disrespecting the rules of the road or failing to maintain safe riding habits.

Members who experience or witness inappropriate or unacceptable activity as outlined above are encouraged to promptly report the issue to the ride leader or any current board member. The ride leader or board member shall create a report with a description of the incident(s), names of the individuals involved, names of witnesses; and relevant dates, times, and locations. The written reports shall be sent to the club secretary for formal recording, adjudication, and action as determined by the board.
